Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust commissioned Rund as Designer and Project Manager for replacement works within the main entrance of Southampton General Hospital.
Project Background
The flagship building’s inner and outer lobby door sets were to be replaced, with a new design required to accommodate the entrance foyer’s existing use as a shopping area, featuring various retailers and cafés.
The Solution

Our work involved specifying and reviewing door designs, where fully automatic doors were decided upon as the most appropriate replacement format. We advised on intricate design elements to ensure each door functioned correctly, such as the types of detectors required for access.

Our Project Management expertise was also instrumental in the seamless running of the installation process, as works had to be carried out overnight over a series of consecutive evenings. An alternative building entrance had to be constructed to accommodate staff and visitors, with temporary lighting installed to illuminate the new access point.

We closely managed all parties involved in the works, ensuring the contractor met detailed specifications and timeframes to minimise disruption of hospital operations. We also ensured all works were fully compliant with stringent hospital safety requirements.
