At the end of last year, Rund sponsored Alex Alley on his amazing adventure to try and break the solo non-stop around the world record in his 40′ race yacht ‘Pixel Flyer’.
Alex, a yachtsman who has sailed all his life, who was representing England in the world championships by the age of 20, knew it was always going to a hard challenge. On New Year’s Eve 2018, Alex set off from Northern France and after about 70 days at sea, he had passed Cape Leuwen and was trucking nicely towards Tazmania in a typical Southern Ocean blow when he began to hear some horrible noises from the mast. After 75 days and over 14,000 miles alone at sea he had a problem with the rigging and was forced to stop in Australia and abandon the record attempt.
Here at Rund, we were proud to sponsor Alex and support his solo non-stop around the world attempt, which also assisted work carried out by Portsmouth University during the voyage. This attempt may have come to an end, but we are sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear from Alex – another challenge is surely on the horizon.
