International Women’s Day: Celebrating unique talent and supporting individual career ambitions

Today marks International Women’s Day (8th March) – an important awareness day which champions individual achievements and showcases the importance of nurturing personal ambitions.

Every individual at Rund brings their own unique talent and career goals, and we believe in providing bespoke support to ensure everyone can meet their own personal objectives.

To celebrate this important day, we are highlighting some of our valued employees who have flourished in their different roles.

Sheri Ajibike, Assistant Finishing & Quality Surveyor

Sheri joined our London team last year as Assistant Finishing & Quality Surveyor.

Sheri commented: “I’ve learned so much already thanks to the diversity of my role at Rund. I work closely with the Clerk of Works team to monitor the quality, specification compliance, and progression of project works. I spend a lot of time on-site, frequently speaking to clients and contractors to make sure objectives are met.

“The more experience I’ve gained, the more I’ve grown to appreciate the importance of my job and that of Clerk of Works in the construction industry. I feel I play a critical role in making sure a project creates safe and reliable buildings in the long-term.

“I’m looking forward to growing my knowledge and skillset in quality management as I take on more responsibilities, learning from my colleagues and through Rund’s training and development programme.”

Sheri’s previous role as Document Controller for housebuilder, Hill Group UK, spurred her initial interest in growing her skills in quality control and health and safety compliance.

She continued: “My role at Hill Group UK was focused on making sure all works followed strict health and safety procedures, policies, and guidelines. The intricacies of the role inspired me to want to go further and learn more about construction quality management as a whole. I was intrigued when I read about the position at Rund for Assistant Finishing & Quality Surveyor, as it seemed like a great route to develop my skills in my area of interest. I’m so glad I took the decision to join Rund – it’s exceeded my expectations!”

Yolanda Buxey, Senior Surveyor

Yolanda is celebrating her 10th year of working at Rund this year.

Yolanda commented: “Our Employer’s Agent service has always been a key area of interest for me, and over the past year I’ve been involved in projects of all sizes and complexities. This has helped strengthen my knowledge in the industry and increased my interest in Employer’s Agent work.

“I’ve also just completed my degree which I had been doing alongside my role. The course, together with the practical experience of the role were complementary to each other and I continue to draw on both aspects of my learning in day-to-day Employer’s Agent work. The Rund team has been great at supporting me through my studies, sharing learnings from their own experiences.

“As my experience and knowledge grew over the years, I felt like I was making a real difference to the success of the business. It was fantastic to be recognised for my efforts through my promotion to Senior Surveyor last year, and I’m excited to take my role to the next level in the coming years with Rund’s ongoing support.”

Yolanda first joined Rund as an Apprentice Administrator in 2013. She began by managing the end of defects process, with her role evolving over the years through her exposure to a variety of projects and clients, as well as tailored training and one-to-one support from colleagues.

Yolanda continued: “I had no prior knowledge or experience in construction when I first joined Rund. Though it seemed daunting at first, my colleagues were there to support me every step of the way and from Day One, I was given lots of opportunities to learn new skills and grow my role. As time went on, I became confident enough to put myself forwards for an Assistant Surveyor role and the Directors gave me their full support. It’s great to have progressed further since and pass my learnings onto others in the business going through the same exciting journey.”
