Rund celebrates new Clerk of Works commission at Hackney Council’s major Britannia scheme

Hackney Council has engaged Rund’s highly reputed Clerk of Works services at Britannia – a significant mixed-use scheme in the heart of the east London borough.

Located next to Shoreditch Park, the Britannia project is the council’s biggest investment in the Shoreditch area for a generation to create new community facilities and address the area’s increasing need for much-needed, high-quality homes. More than 80 homes for social rent and shared ownership are set to be delivered overall, alongside homes sold outright to help fund the project. A new secondary school and state-of-the-art leisure centre have already been completed as part of the Britannia masterplan.

We are appointed on Phase 2B of the scheme, which involves the creation of private and affordable tenure homes across four residential buildings, alongside new commercial and amenity spaces. Biodiversity enhancements will also continue as a core part of the scheme, with 100 new trees planted and new wildlife habitats created.

Our role as Clerk of Works will be critical in helping Hackney Council deliver high-quality standards consistently across all homes. We will continually monitor progress, ensuring quality remains paramount across all aspects of the project. Our qualified and highly experienced team will conduct thorough quality control procedures, including on site monitoring and testing, drawing and specification reviews.

Phil Smith, Director at Rund commented: “A project of this nature calls for consistent quality control, so all homes, regardless of tenure, receive the same level of scrutiny from project inception to completion. A core objective is to deliver outstanding quality standards across the entire project. Our Clerk of Works team is committed to keeping quality at the heart of a project, having worked across many major mixed tenure schemes over the past 35 years.

“We are excited to be working with Hackney Council on this unique project, which will complement the borough’s ongoing regeneration and transformation into a fantastic place to live.”

Our Clerk of Works team has more than 150 years’ combined experience in construction quality management. To find out more about our comprehensive service, download our brochure via this link: https://www.rund.co.uk/media
