How Rund is Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace

World Mental Health Day is an event we always reflect on at Rund, ensuring the wellbeing of our employees – inclusive of physical health – remains at the forefront of our culture. This year’s theme is particularly poignant – ‘mental health in the workplace’ – so in accordance, we’re delighted to share what we’ve been doing at Rund to keep the mental health conversation open to all employees in our workplace - no matter the day. Too often, work is seen as separate from life outside, when the truth is, we know that what happens in the workplace filters through to every aspect of our personal lives, and vice versa. After all, we spend most of our week at work. That’s why at Rund, we view our team members’ happiness in equivalence to their professional development.

Our commitment to Building Stronger Together threads through all our activities at Rund. That means not only helping our employees prosper through our structured training programme, but allowing them to take control of their own learning, following paths that will lead them to ultimate happiness and fulfilment in their careers.

Beyond the big picture, people’s day-to-day working lives are about so much more than building an illustrious career. It’s also about the little interactions, the sense of comfort, and the freedom to be yourself. It’s about feeling connected to your colleagues and looking forward to securing valuable qualifications and milestones.

At Rund, we instill a positive atmosphere through monthly socials, which offer staff a greater opportunity to learn more about each other and forge positive relationships. We also host team-building events, such as Dragon Boat Racing and the recent Tough Mudder challenge. Whilst raising money for charity, our participants support one another in achieving feats of endurance, helping to foster a sense of collective trust and togetherness.

As the colder months draw in, we are taking the necessary steps towards ensuring we have sufficient knowledge about mental health to support our staff. Primarily, we have recently trained 12 Mental Health First Aiders. These valuable staff members underwent a 2-day course with MHFA England where they learned how to implement the ALGEE plan. This is how to Approach, assess and assist with a situation, Listen and communicate non-judgementally, Give support and information, Encourage appropriate professional help and Encourage other supports. Consequently, our MHFAs are equipped to support their colleagues with issues both big and small. Conversations with a MHFA are confidential unless they believe a colleague poses a risk to themselves or others. Our MHFAs are here to support staff and even identify when team members may be struggling. We are confident that our proactive measures towards meeting the needs of our staff members will support their long-term mental wellbeing.

Join us in championing good mental health in the workplace by hosting a ‘Tea and Talk’ and encouraging your staff members to meet in a communal area for a chat with a hot drink.
