Global food packaging specialist, Huhtamaki, appointed Rund as Designer, Contract Administrator and Principal Designer to increase the capacity of its Gosport manufacturing facility.
Project Background
The project involved the creation of a new pre-production material storage unit, replacing an existing building on a different site. Our role as Designer involved managing the initial design of the new warehousing structure, which came in flatpack format from Germany. The structure included inbuilt wall fans for an efficient heating system.
The site was originally home to various reptile species, so we were involved in developing in-depth mitigation measures to ensure construction had minimal adverse impact on wildlife. This formed part of our wider role in helping the client gain planning approval for the warehouse unit.
The Solution
Our Contract Administrator services involved managing the contract between Huhtamaki and the building contractor for the construction of the new structure, groundworks, and access roads. Managing the contract was fundamental both in the project’s early stages and during construction.
As Principal Designer, we also put strict guidelines and measures in place to guarantee Huhtamaki adopted an effective approach to safety, compliance, and risk management throughout the project lifespan.
Our work on the Huhtamaki project demonstrated our ability to act independently, impartially and in a fair manner to maintain the project’s critical path, ultimately leading to its successful completion.
