Rund was appointed by banking giant J.P. Morgan and GVA Second London Wall as Building Surveyor, assisting on conversion works at the bank’s Wiltshire Building.
Project Background
The works involved upgrading existing void office space and a staff canteen into temporary ‘swing space’ offices, allowing staff to relocate while £16m office refurbishment works took place at J.P. Morgan’s headquarters in Bournemouth.

The Wiltshire Building originally included open-plan office space.
The Solution

Our work involved reviewing redesigns which set out recommendations to make the space more usable and increase staff capacity, including the removal of partition walls. We also ensured the ratio of staff to fire escapes and WCs were correct or exceeded requirements, and we confirmed suitable locations for the fire escapes.

J.P.’s Diner was an American-style canteen for staff. For sufficient ‘swing space’ offices to be created, a substantial volume of works was required involving the complete gutting of the diner. The redesign also included the creation of new ceilings and break-out areas to enhance the canteen environment.

Following our reviews of initial designs, our team continued their involvement in the project by making regular site inspections. This helped ensure all works were carried out to exact design specifications, with high-quality standards maintained throughout.
