To mark International Women’s Day (8th March) and Women in Construction Week (1st –7th March), our Women in Rund group hosted a lunchtime session last Friday. We explored the importance of visibility and representation in construction and shared ideas on how to create workplaces where everyone feels safe, supported, and empowered.
The Women in Rund group provides a cross-office community for women at Rund - spanning surveying, aftercare, administration, marketing, and health and safety. With 25% of our workforce identifying as female, the group was set up to provide professional and personal support, particularly for those early in their careers.
Organised by Leman Zlatkova, Senior Surveyor, the session began with a virtual meeting to run through the agenda and discussion points. We then broke out into smaller, in-person groups to share experiences of working in a male-dominated industry, before coming back together to reflect on the insights gathered.
Our discussion focused on questions such as:
• How do women’s leadership approaches strengthen teams and project outcomes?
• What helps women speak up, negotiate, or challenge decisions?
• What does a supportive culture look like in a male-dominated environment?
• What barriers still exist, and what practical steps help remove them?
The insights from these conversations will help shape the future direction of the Women in Rund group, ensuring that women’s voices are heard, supported, and championed across the business.
