Rund worked with leading leisure venue operator BH Live and Bournemouth Borough Council (now BCP Council), to enhance its flagship leisure facilities and enable wider community use.
Project Background
The refurbishment and extension of Littledown Centre formed part of a partnership project by BH Live and the council to encourage greater community participation in sport, health, wellbeing, and fitness activities. The project involved creating two new multi-purpose fitness studios and a gym extension with over 200 fitness stations, incorporating cardiovascular and strength equipment, and functional training areas.

The large-scale project called for a significant level of consultancy expertise, so BH Live and the Council took advantage of Rund’s multidisciplinary services by appointing us as Employer’s Agent, Clerk of Works and CDM Consultant.
The Solution

Working across roles allowed us to have sight of many different elements of the project, so we could combine our knowledge and skillsets to provide an added value service. Littledown Centre promised state-of-the-art facilities to suit a broad range of fitness activities, so our services helped meet high quality standards.

Our extensive scope of work included co-ordinating mechanical, electrical, and structural elements of the design, ensuring that all intricate specifications were met from concept to construction. We also used our substantial in-house expertise to tender and procure the best value contractors, ensuring all works were strictly kept within budget.

Littledown Centre is now rated among the UK’s top performing leisure venues by Quest, Sport England’s continuous improvement and quality mark for sport and leisure facilities. The centre was also crowned Local Authority/Leisure Trust Gym of the Year at the 2016 National Fitness Awards.
