Bournemouth Council appointed Rund as Designer and Contract Administrator for refurbishment works on one of Bournemouth’s historical landmark buildings.
Project Background
The Pavilion Theatre is a Grade II building which was constructed in the 1920s and to this day, has retained many of its original features. Its neo-classical design and elegant styling contribute to its unique characteristics. The theatre is known for its year-round entertainment offering, regularly hosting events including West End stage shows, opera, ballet, and comedy, as well as corporate functions.

Our expertise in preserving and enhancing landmark heritage buildings was fundamental in the broad-ranging refurbishment works. These included stonework repairs and cleaning, repairs and relining of original cast iron gutters, repairs to soffits and fascias, and redecoration of windows and doors at the southern end of the building.
The Solution

We closely managed the works from start to finish, with our scope of service including day-to-day contract management, carrying out site inspections, issuing payment notices and providing an aftercare defects service.

The refurbishment works added to a line of additional projects the Rund team had been appointed on for the theatre, with Bournemouth Council continually recognising our commitment to delivering high-quality services. Our team were also involved in the creation of the Pavilion Dance Centre, a 200-seat auditorium with professional dance and community studios and backstage facilities. The team also managed refurbishment works to reinvigorate existing, redundant rooms within the west terrace of the Pavilion, to create a new Drama Centre for the Arts University Bournemouth.
