Bournemouth Borough Council (now BCP Council) commissioned Rund as Employer’s Agent and Principal Designer to assist in the expansion of a popular community hub in Bournemouth.
Project Background
Stokewood Leisure Centre is managed by BH Live, the south coast’s leading operator of leisure and event venues. The project aimed to enhance the centre’s existing facilities to benefit the wider community and encourage greater participation in sport, health, wellbeing, and fitness activities.

Expansion works involved creating a larger gym to accommodate a range of new, state-of-the-art equipment and QUAD functional fitness zones.
The Solution

We worked closely with BH Live and the council, facilitating meetings between both parties and producing regular work progress reports. We provided extensive contract management services, ensuring all works were carried out in line with requirements and that the interests of the client were protected throughout the project.

Works took place while the building remained open, so it was imperative works were considerate of existing operations. We engaged with key stakeholders including residents, helping alleviate any concerns and keeping everyone informed in all aspects of the project.

Stokewood Leisure Centre is one of four projects we have worked on with BH Live, in addition to Littledown Centre in Bournemouth, Mountbatten Leisure Centre in Portsmouth and Corfe Mullen Leisure Centre in East Dorset. Each project has successfully helped make a positive social impact to the health, wellbeing, and economic prosperity of local communities.
